barracuda drive question

I installed a barracuda sata3 1tb 7200rpm drive onto my new gigabyte P67A-ud3 m/b and was surprised that win 7 test reported it as being no faster than my old sata 2 5900rpm drive.
I have tried to get a better result by installing a gigabyte P67A-ud3-b3 board, at gygabyte suggestion. I also got another barracuda drive with the same specs as above, re-installed Win 7 and got no improvement.

Should Win 7 be reporting any better drive proformance or is it just a waste of time installing a sata 3 drive?

Hi,

Not 100% sure on this but it may have to do with how much cache memory each drive has. If your old drive had a bigger cache and this new one has less it may affect windows performance rating. The size of the drive may be an issue too. Do you know what the rated transfer speeds are for the your old drive and new one, how many MBs/sec they are supposed to transfer at?
