the fan faces upwards blowing air onto the cooler from below it and then through the heat sink onto the PSU, you might have a problem with it sucking hot air in, erm, if that is a problem then try a side fan just below it to supply some cool air. here is a picture of it mounted in my computer (older picture as cables have been tidied since then and 120mm fan put on back to suck air out. http://img325.imageshack.us/img325/8163/436300023wl.jp
is this cooler better than the ac freezer 4?, is costs a little more but it uses some sort of liquid aswell. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Vapochill_Micro.htm its the vapochill_micro high end for skt478
its only 150w cooling capacity, so at the moment i am going with the ac freezer 4, will the ac frezzer 4 fit on my motherboard, the northbridge heatsink will not get in way of the fan will it? pic of motherboard: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Product_Picture/865PE INFINITY RB1 b.jpg (northbridge heatsink: approxamatly 3cm tall) what would you say is the cooling capacity of the stock intel coolers? this is the temp reading from the ac freezer 4 (got them off a review) the person who did the review was using a 3.0ghz pentium 4 prescott. are those temperatures good? Cooler Idle Temp Load Temp Freezer 4 (av) 32.7 C 42.7 C **EDIT** matt, i am risking it, i dont know weather it will fit as northbridge heatsink could well be in the way, i have orderd it at 8:30pm (thuesday), should get it on wendsday maybe thursday, its got to come from coventry, so i am looking forward to getting it.
yeah i have a fan on top of my northbridge heatsink and it fits, you may have to take the cpu cooler off if you want to remove the NB Heatsink and you may have to be careful and just make sure nothing gets in the way of the fan (leads etc) as the fan is exposed an isnt sheilded by plastic. but it should be fine. They are excellent coolers (exfoliate will agree) :good: and for the money you cant go wrong, BTW those temps are great temps, the faster CPU runs hotter so they are pretty cool for a 3.0ghz pentium 4 prescott. (mines only a Celeron 2.6GHz so it runs slightly cooler)
but how could it be the processor getting too hot causing my computer to shut down, becouse on the ac website, it says pentium 4's dont overheat, they throttle, and there max temp is 85 degrees or somthing, my processor has never got to 85, max its ever got to is 78 degrees.
load is about 66 for me, but then when ut2k4 or doom 3 is on, load is 78. i am hoping the new cooler will get those temps down.
I've seen past 70* C on my Pressy but not for long. I would recommend you never go over 60* C. As far as P 4s throttling, I've never heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me as AMD has Cool n' Quiet.
Willhub I am not sure how long you had your system. It could be all down to BIOS settings. I had a quick look on the web and my eye cought some info regarding the system not booting up because the BIOS settings were not safe (i.e. 35% overclocking etc.). I know that my ASRock is supposed to shut down if the chip gets too hot, regardless of what Intel intended. ASRock call this utility CPU-COP (or U-COP or what the :swear: else). If your board has good documentation go thorough it and see. You might be able to solve the shut down issue via BIOS setting. However, be carefull. It could be that the system is hinting that you need a better thermal solution... Good luck with the freezer. Please come back to let us know... If you are really happy with it, I might conceder getting one myself... :ff:
the freezer might be getting deliverd today, if not, it should be tomorrow, i will take some pics of my case with it in
, i can just see the processor heating up to make the temperature the same as it is with stock (52 idle, 77 at max ever full load.) i think my computer has got somthing against me :\
they dont like us mere humans controlling thier lives! last computer that thought that i beat up on with a sledge hammer! (just kidding, it was a road train)
when i have the ac freezer 4 on, how high do you think i will be able to overclock my processor, i would not mind 3.2ghz, but 3.6 would be great.
