Whats the best CPU + motherboard for a pure gaming PC?

This is my current system:

Intel Core i7 950(3.06GHz)
64 bit Quad-Core Processor
Asus Sabertooth X58 Motherboard
12GB RAM (6x2GB) DDR3 1333
1TB (1 x 1TB) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 7200RPM HDD
2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
GeForce GTX 680 2GB
750W PSU
120mm Liquid Cooling System
 
Asus Sabertooth Z77 + i7 3 series (Ivy Bridge core).

On the other hand, your current set is still a very good configuration, and upgrading may not bring a significant improvement.
