there are many thing to consider, first of all what OS do you plan to use on this system, cos the minimum / recommended requirements change withe selection of the OS
for example: a 2.4 GHz dual core CPU or better is recommended, 1GB of RAM & for XP 2GB for Vista, 8GB of free hard drive space is also recomended
Nvidia Geforce 7800 or better or ATI Radeon X1800 or better with support for 3.0 Shader.

Os is operating system i.e windows xp/vista, linux, Mac OS
You need a good processor (the brain of the computer, the faster it runs, the more frames per second you get playing games, and doing a task say starting up winows or converting a file), and a video card (a seperate card in the computer that processes all the graphicical data, which is usually used when playing games). Ram is the memory that stores all the data currently running your pc, for example a word document, windows, and a game, and you need 1 or 2 gigabytes of it to be able to "run enough stuff at the same time".
I bet there's probably a "for dummies" book explaining all this

yes indeed Ashton is correct,
OS = Operating System
Ashton is also correct about the other stuff he posted, but, make sure you physically check (don't believe the salesman) the PC you buy or build (building is a much better option, because, then you can put exactly what you want in the system) that the system you get doesn't use a crappy integreated / onboard graphics card
BTW: all at HWF are always here to help (me included)
if you have any questions, just ask, personally, i wasn't born knowing about computers, i had to learn, and i'm also always learning, so, don't feel bad if your a noob, we all were noobs, i did think i knew a lot about computers when i was employed to fix them, but, soon after i came to HWFs i realised i knew :swear: all, never be ashamed to ask a question, personally, i would respect someone more if they admitted they didn't something rather than someone who thought they knew everything and end up :swear:ing it up
