Hello, I am planning to build my self a new computer. I am an above average user that plans to play some games but hardcore like. Here are the parts that I have researched and come up with:

I don't know a lot about cases so I really am not sure if this one will work.

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

XFX PVT84GUDF3 GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
I am aware that this is not 8800Gts but like I said I am not a hardcore gamer.

Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB ATX V2.2 500W Power Supply - Retail
I, also, don't know a lot about power supplies; I am sure that 500 Watts is eough power but is this power supply going to last me?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750 - Retail

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail
Is this good enough RAM or should I try something different?

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black SATA Model LH-20A1S OEM BK - OEM

Anything will be nice, I just want to make sure that these are good parts that will last.

Oh and it all sums up to be $738.92 and my budget is around $750 to $800, but try to keep it as low as possible because I am paying for it all.

Yeah, well the 8600 has dx10 and 256mb also, but the ati 3850 needs the pci Express 2 interface and the mobo I have chosen doesn't support that interface
 
Rosewill is the Newegg house brand. It's a gamble, so you may get something good, but you may not. I wouldn't advise playing Russian Roulette with your system. If Tagan would change it's attitude, I'd recommend them, but for now, they currently don't seem to give a damn about quality. Until they change this attitude, I strongly advise not purchasing from them.

A 550-600W unit from any of those companies would be about where you'd want to look. You may find a lower wattage unit from these companies as well that does the job, like the above mentioned Corsair 450VX, but if you're not sure stay 500W or up. I probably wouldn't go over 600W unless you plan on a GeForce 8800 or Radeon X2900/ HD3800 series card in the near future, and even then, only if you're looking for Crossfire or SLI.

Corsair, Seasonic, Antec (Earthwatts, NeoPower and TruePower lines), Enermax, Thermaltake, Silverstone, OCZ, and FSP/Fortron are all solid picks.
 
thermaltake do some superb power supplies, both my systems use them. In my main one I have a Toughpower 600Watts, and in my other one, a 420Watts TR2 which does the job perfect for its needs
