building a new rig from scratch

ok here it is. I've got 2-3k to spend on a pc. Ive already got a 32" hd primary monitor but would like a tri-screen set-up. I want to focus on it being used for gaming but multimedia also (ie recordable tv etc). I'm into my computers and gaming but don't know that much about set-up and compatibility. Any help, advice and web-sites to reference would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys

I might get shouted down for suggesting it but if you are not experianced and have that big a budget there are lots top end prebuilt systems from people like overclockers or cyberpowersystem that i'm sure will not dissapoint and of course will be compatible and well built.

The 'ultimate rampage oc' from overclockers looks good with a 2x4870 and a QX9650 overclocked to 3.5GHz for just over 2k. I hear their customer service is good so you have back up you may not get if get a small shop or friend to build for you.

nice one mate i'll be sure to check it out. Any tips on hdd? I've plumped for 2 300gb striped raptor drives and a 1tb backup. Sound good?

Yes you are going to get shouted at for recommending a pre-built system lol I honestly think that pre-built systems are a waste of money because you end up paying a high cost for what you get, its much worth to buy the parts separately and build it your self that way you save money, get the experience and enjoyment out of it as well.
