Is it worth it to build it yourself?

:D Got you there, that's not the real question; though it's part of it.

I've read all over that it's probably better to build your own gaming computer yourself if you are on a cheap budget. But for me, this sure answer becomes into a dilemma. The thing is, I live in Guatemala, Central America.

Now, Guatemala is not as secluded as you think. I constantly buy stuff from Amazon, Dell, etc. The stores I buy online from are mostly big international companies. They all ship here. BUT...

PC parts sold separately from various small-but-cheap vendors? I believe most of their guarantees don't take effect where I live, too. Do you think I would be better off buying from a secure, tested, site like Dell for my next Gaming PC, at the expense of my hard earned money; or should I take the risk and build my own machine?
 
Prebuilt gaming pc's from well-known brands such as DELL's XPS line or Alienware are in my opinion way overpriced.

I like building my own system since I get to choose from a wider variaty of hardware than most online pc configurators, it's also very satisfying to find the lowest price by doing some research and eventually come up with a system which costs less but equals or even surpasses the performance of a prebuilt gaming pc.

DELL's XPS by the way series have always boasted impressive specs too, but due to using their own brand of motherboards and other parts DELL thought they could save costs on didn't deliver the expected performance they should have. In onther words, a pair of 8800GTX in SLi in a XPS machine didn't perform as well as a pair of 8800GTX sli with a quality brand motherboard.

ooof yea definitely, if you want to build a GAMING PC, build it yourself, I agree with the above, however, if you were wanting a basic PC, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy pre-built, with XPS dell's and alienware, you are paying for the name, not the quality of the goods (despite them being pretty top of the range)
 
if you build it yourself, you can save upto 700 bucks even 1k. Anyway you've still got the warranty so you can return it if you're not happy with it. Also you can pay your local computer shop to build it for you if you're not confident for a small fee.
 
Thanks for your responses. I agree with you that building it yourself is the way to go. However, I'm alone in that department here. There is not "local PC store" that sells specific PC parts and builds them. And I'm not sure the guarantee will work here. But I guess I'll go for it. Thank you very much for your responses!
