Buyer Beware! Down with Abit!

Ok, I have become so aggravated with Abit that I have decided to spread the word to everyone I know to beware of them. I have complimented Abit many times on this forum, but at this point I retract all of those comments. I have 2 primary complaints; their customer service is comparable to that of Wal-Mart. It is horrid. I have sent many support emails to them and none have been responded to. My second complaint is this; they have a huge lack of support for Windows XP x64 Ed. Drivers have recently become available on their website, but when I got my motherboard I had to track them down at all the different part manufacturer's websites. And more than that, only the chipset driver and raid drivers are availble. There is no uGuru (the managment software bundled with) for x64. This means you cannot update the BIOS, which means no X2. The bundled BIOS doesn't even read the temperature properly. So here is my final point; if you want to use Windows x64 Ed. especially with an X2, but this still applies to all, or if you see the possibility of EVER needing to contact customer support (which from what I have seen is very likely), then DO NOT BUY AN ABIT BOARD! I hope everyone who reads this will heed it and pass it on to someone considering Abit.

Here's the thing about XP 64-bit: Nobody has much support for it. It's coming, but very slowly. You can still update BIOS with a floppy disk and drive. I'd bet that you're going to see the same issue with practically every motherboard company out there. Very few people really use XP64, mostly because there isn't a huge need for it for the majority of users. When that point comes along, yes, you'll have better support.

Most companies don't instantly update their downloads to include the latest drivers. My guess is they either need to customize them with a logo and/or they want to wait and see how the driver release works out. You don't want a buggy driver release.

Temp sensors on motherboards aren't the most accurate to begin with, and I'm not sure how accurate the on-die sensors are on CPU's. While Abit tends to have a track record of temp readings being off, I really see this as being a minor point in the grand scheme of things. The general rule of thumb is to not take a motherboard temp as gospel.

Now, the non-response to e-mails, I do agree that it's a valid point. I know Abit has a message board and I would check that to see if there's something going on that might be affecting their ability to respond.

If you want to use XP64, you need to understand that there simply is not a great amount of software available for it just yet.

Yes agreed any motherboard manufacturer is going to have troubles with x64 edition, its just best to stick with 32bit until 64bit computing gains momentum and theres a large driver/software base for it.
