Buying a new computer

Hey folks
I'm going to buy a whole new computer soon and I wanted some feedback on the one I'm looking at right now:

Power feed: 500 W
Motherboard: Intel Desktop Board DP35DP
Processor: Intel Dual Core E8400 3.0 Ghz
RAM: DDR2 2x 2GB DIMM Corsair Twin2x
Graphic card: Asus EN8800GT/G/HTDP/512M - 512 MB DDR
Hard drive: 1TB Spinpoint F1

And that's about it. I would like to know if the power feed is gonna be enough or not, and if any component listed here really sucks. I'm planning on using this thing for playing games, and I'm guessing it should do the job alright?

PS: I hope I haven't misplaced this thread or anything but since it pretty much concerns the entire computer I couldn't find anywhere else to place it.
 
The system you posted looks fine to me, but I dont play very graphics-intense games. A few questions for you:
  • What games are you planning on playing?
  • Who makes the PSU (power supply... this is going to largely determine if this unit is good enough for you)
  • Is there a make or model of this computer, or is it being customer built for you?
As a sidenote, the maker of the hdd is Samsung. I'm not a big fan of their hdds as I've had some trouble in the past. A better hdd maker would be Seagate or Western Digital even. 4 GB of RAM is going to be pretty good for you, although not as good if you're running Vista. Lastly, the 8800 is a great card and should last you for quite some time unless you're all about having the latest and greatest.

Yeah it's a custom built computer based on a model (website is Top-D Computer Discount, model is Pro SU80). I don't know about the power feed it comes with the case. It's an Antec Sonata-III-EC 500W. As for the games my ultimate goal is Dead Space, but I'd like to run Stalker and Mass Effect and games in that range...
 
Hmm there's an update. I visited a hardware store in my town and the guy suggested an ATI HD4870 instead, for roughly the same price. Also, he told me to get a P5 series motherboard and only 2 gigs of ram. Will 2 gigs be enough (It's PC8500 I think instead of 6400).

I'm with jaggy about the 8800 Ultra. That ATI 4870 is so expensive you'd be better off going with a high end nvidia card. To be fair, I haven't used an ATI card in 5+ years.

Secondly, I dont know why someone would suggest for you to go with less RAM. My honest suggestion is to stick with 4GB if you can help it.

That PSU should be fine, but if you can afford a higher quality PSU (IE: Enermax) that'd be great.

And you also never told me what games you'd be playing.
 
What Operating System are you going to get??????

If your going to use XP then 2GB would be ok but i also recommend you get 4GB

It depends on how good his PSU is, the 8800Ultra is power hungry so i would double check if the PSU can take the load along with all of the rig.
 
sweet get an XFX 8800 Ultra factory Overclocked one i heard those are sweet i would stay with Nvidia. and you will probably need a bigger power supply because it take 2 power adapters. i use a 1 KW will work and more will work for 2
 
ABS is also a good company for Power Supplies, and they have the super cool PipeRock Modular cabling, almost feels like you're plugging in XLR cables. IDK why but to me that's very appealing.:D

8800GTX/Ultra are very power hungry but a 500W-600W PSU will work just fine.
