bypass screensaver password

I have an Hp computer w/ Win Me. Someone gave it to me & they can't remember the password a the screensaver. It will not boot up the windows screen until I have the password. Is there any way to get past the password screen ?:(
 
Do you mean main windows logon (welcome screen) ?

If so Boot up by tapping F8 and select Safe Mode. Then logon as system Administrator. Go to Control Panel & Select Users. From here you can edit the password, delete the user & save the files.. so then you can create a new user and restore the documents etc.
 
The problem with that is the screensaver still comes up & still won't let me do anything. I can't even access the cd rom to reload windows ME. I have tried the safe mode.
 
fire up explorer and go to C:\Windows\ and in that folder is a file called *.pwl, just rename it or delete it

EDIT: this deletes screensaver password

EDIT: if you mean the login screen, just press <Esc> at login
