Can Not Access Internet or Any Documents

I am at school and I have been givin this computer and all i know about it is that it is running windows XP and if you try to open a document such as a word document it gives an error.

The application failed to installize properly. Click on OK to terminate the application.

Also if I try to open up internet explorer, it doesnt display any page and when I close it, it gives a error similer to the last.

What is causing these problems?
 
look at your event viewer...(RightClick MyComputer > Manage > Event Viewer)
Check the error events for applications and paste here...
 
i think you are having at least 2 problems

either reinstall word or use a registy scanner, and it wouldn't do any harm to do a virus and spyware check Avast (free) is about the best AV software, as for spyware use this (also free) then we'll look at your net connection
