cmos battery

i've got an ibm thinkpad 560z and my cemos battery has gone down can anyone tell me where the old one is fitted and how do i get to it..any help would be appreciated...

its a watch battery on your motherboard,

If you open your case you should be able to see it, its normally silver and about the size of a 2 pence coin.

there will be a code / number on it like all batteries have, you can use that to find a replacement (you can get them from alot of places, including argos).

EDIT: somehow i missed that you where talking about a laptop when i first posted, so it might not be this simple :( a lot of laptops have a 'pack' of smaller batteries connected together, you should be able to see the CMOS battery by removing the panel on the back of your laptop.
 
The CMOS battery died in my thinkpad not long ago and it was so awkward getting it out I broke the solder and had to install a wire from the battery to the next solder point on the motherboard!
My mistake but it was so easily done I thought id mention it just in case your motherboard has the same silly battery holder.
 
if i remember correctly its on the bottom of the laptop under a small panel held in place by a single screw, just remove the screw & open the panel & the BIOS battery is (yellow i think) but don't just grab it and pull it out, look carefully & you'll see it is actually plugged into the mobo & it's also a standard BIOS battery with wires soldered on, i would suggest you just buy a standard BIOS battery

BTW: a standard BIOS battery part number is: CR 2032
 
thanks guy's,i will have a look for this and will get back to you..have got a new battery with two wires and a connector on it so i will have a go..
