Computer buggered?

Hi there. Excuse me if this is in the wrong forum.

I just recently bought a new motherboard for my PC (Asus k8n) to replace an older one. I fitted it with no problem and got everything rigged up, but once it hit the screen before the windows splash screen it kept restarting, I changed several setting and it still done this, so I decided to repair it with the windows CD.
Once again it kept restarting before the Windows splash screen:( , so I decided it might of been a hardware fault. I re-plugged everything up and hit the on button and nothing happens.Once again i replugged everything just incase i hadnt put the power on and still it wouldnt power up.
Checking the Motherboard the Onboard LED is on so power must be getting to the hardware. I've even tried the motherboard with nothing on it but still it wont power. Im in quite a mess I think, fried harware ya think:eek: ?
SO basically I've went from working sort of to no power.

Full system specs-
Asus K8n 754
AMD athlon 64 3400
1024mb 3200RAM
Sparkle 6800GT
some old Samsung 80gb harddrive

Any help appreciated:)
 
Well I think I can answer one part of your problem. When you switched on and just before the splash screen it rebooted, this is probably because Windows doesn't like your new motherboard, and the best way to fix it would not to do a repair install, but a brand new install. If you get the other problem fixed you could do a fresh install (whilst keeping the old one at the same time) and see if it works. As to the other part of your problem, I'm not sure, did you de-static before unplugging and replugging everything?
 
Hmm I cant remember, hope I did, I'm usually pretty careful about stuff like that but shit happens I suppose, will the whole system be defective if static is responsible?
 
Does your PSU have a 24pin power connector? If your previous mobo had the older 20 pin power connector then perhaps you need to upgrade your power supply as the Asus K8n 754 requires 24 pin power.
 
unplug everything, and just install CPU, HS/F, RAM, PSU and reset BIOS defaults then try booting, then add 1 component at a time, and when the problem shows itself, the last component you installed is the problem
 
Just tried the above via the jumprs on the Motherboard, still nothing, the little green light remains on but no power when I press the button.

whats funny about that, Emachines have underpowered PSU's and crap power switches

What was the old system's motherboard? As a general rule, it's a very good idea to back up and reinstall Windows when changing motherboards (unless they're using the same chipset). While physically, the motherboard is one component, it has a lot of devices on it, and you're pulling all of that at once out from under the OS. Windows may be having a hard time communicating with the storage controller, but that's not all. I'd try to back up your data on another system and then do a format and clean install of Windows.
