Computer Crashes When Tranfering Files Over Network.

Hello everyone.

I'm scrathing my head over this one.

Just recently built a new computer, but I've come across 3 problems that I
never had before. I've found the solutions for 2 of them the but third one is killing me.

- Every time that I tried to transfer files over the network( LAN ) TO this computer it will crash, does not matter how small the file is. Can someone please give me a hint about this problem. Can not give you full specs right now, but here the basics:
- Tyan Mobo model k8w s2885
-Two Opterons
-4 gigs of memory
-matrox dual dvi video card
-sata adptec raid card
-4 400 gig hdd ( 1 system drive other 3 on raid 0 )
- intel pro 10/100/1000 network card
- gigabit router/switcher

one final observation, I CAN transfer files internally from hard drive to hard drive. wich leads me to believe that my problem is network or network related hardware.

Thank You, all

When you say over the network, meaning within your LAN right??

Yes, within my Lan.

What is the set up of your LAN?? What OSes are you using?

All pc's ( 5 ) running Window XP PRO svc pack 2

I have a 4 ports wired/wireless 100/1000 router/switcher and connected to that a 8 port swichter were all pcs are connected, all running gigabit adapters
for faster ( lol ) network file transfer.

thanks.

I'm still not sure exactly what your problem is. Are you trying to transfer between two PCs in your LAN, or between LAN and Internet?

What protocol are you using? FTP, SMB, NFS? Something else?

We need to know exactly what's wrong before we can help.

Sorry,

I had 4 pc's on my LAN. All of them with a Shared folder, everything worked as it should.
I've recently added a new computer to this workgroup and here lies the problem:

I can read the information on the shared points but as soon as I try to copy anything TO the new computer it crashes.
all the other 4 are ok, meaning i can copy to and from between them.

Not enough knowledge to say wich protocol it is. just regular shared folder on a windows xp pro sp2 machine.

Try setting the permissions for the shared folder,

right click the folder>properties>'Sharing' tab>permissions

Highlight 'Everyone' and set it with Full control. >Reset
