Hi
Recently I've been having two really weird but related problems with my computer. The first problem is that the computer would turning off randomly as if it was suddenly unplugged. There is absolutely no warning before this happens, it would be running fine one second, and the next second the computer would be completely turned off (screen blank, fans stopped, LEDs on the case, keyboard and mouse turned off). After this happens, I would not be able to turn the computer back on with the power button on the case. To get it to turn back on, I would have to unplug the PSU, wait a minute or so, then plug it back in and turn it on normally.
I have had this happen while I am watching videos, surfing the internet, and playing games, so as far as I can tell it is not a software issue. I am not too sure if it is a heat related problem, the CPU idles at around 40 degrees and goes up to 67 - 70 while running Crysis. For my processor (Athlon 3800+), AMD states that the maximum allowable temperature is 80 degrees. I have also opened up the case and checked all the cables and connections carefully, and everything seems normal. I am monitoring the system voltages with speedfan to see if the PSU is causing the problem, and currently I have the following readings:
+5V = 4.73V | +12V = 11.84V | +3.3V = 3.31V | Vcore = 1.55V
Does anybody know if these voltages are normal?
The second problem is that I have had all the USB ports stop working when the computer boots. This happened twice, and it dosen't seem to happen as frequently as the problem described above. When this happens, the BIOS thinks the keyboard is not connected, and the LEDs on the keyboard and mouse dosen't come on, so obviously power is not being supplied through the USB ports, however all the fans work, the monitor comes on, and the system can get past POST. The common link between the USB issue and the random power off issue is that the only way to fix both problems is to unplug the PSU and wait a few minutes.
At this point I am out of ideas about what to do next, if anyone here has some good ideas I would love to hear them out.
My system specs:
AMD Athlon 3800+
Asus A8N-SLI
2GB OCZ RAM
eVga Geforce 8600 GTS
