Computer will not boot

Hi All,

Not sure this is in the correct forum.

A friend of mine has a fishing boat with several computers on board. When he is in port he turns the computers off in the normal manner, when he's ready to go back to sea, he switches them back on again, but one of them fails to boot up, he has to switch it off again, remove the graphics card, put the graphics card back in then switch on again and hey presto, the computer works again and will continue working 24/7 until it is switched off again. He has replaced the graphics card with a new one twice in recent months, but still the problem continues.

Any ideas !!!!!!

TIA

Seems to be a motherboard problem....
try to reset the bios (clear cmos)
Is there any onboard graphic?
Try to update the video bios version.

Thank you for your reply.

How would we go about resetting the bios and is there a any chance we could make things worse? As it is now it is very frustrating but he can go to work with it.

TIA
Keith

Of course i wont be responsible for any damage, but if u trust me, there is a chance that we can fix it. ;)

-BEFORE U START REMOVE ALL WIRES-UNPLUG POWER CABLE-

The easyest way to reset the bios is to open the computer case carefully without damaging anything.

Next u have to finde a circle battery and remove it. (CMOS-BATTERY)

After u have removed the battery u have to push the powerbutton for a minute.

Now connect the wires back and turn on the computer WITHOUT putting the battery back.

If the reset worked the problem could be solved.:crash:

U forgot to answer my question: Is there any onboard Graphic????

Hope i worked... and if not tell me and we can try something else.

Thank you for your swift reply.

I don't think the computer has any onboard graphics but I will ask my friend (Antony) about it and also pass on the info you have given.

I would think he will be reluctant to try resetting the bios at the moment as he is going back out to sea tomorrow evening for about three weeks, but he may be willing to try this on his return.

Thank you for your advice so far....and please watch this space..."I will be back"

Keith
