cpu compatability

I have a Via motherboard with 266 FSB, 1.7 ghz cpu (478). I would like to put a 2.4 ghz cpu (478) to replace the 1.7. I'm just not sure which one to buy as 266 FSB's have gone the way of the dinosaur. I have adequate cooling, A Lian Li aluminum case with 2-80mm intake,1-80 exaust and a cooler master cpu fan. I am more than willing to replace the cpu cooloing fan if need be. Any help wou ld be greatly appreciated. Thx Lee

You should be able to put in any 533MHz FSB CPU, but check first to see if you need to flash your BIOS to a newer version. If you're unsure about the cooling ability of your current CPU, buy the retail CPU kit as it comes with a fan that will work quite well.

Now to explain the FSB thing (why I'm saying you should be able to use a 533MHz FSB part). The P4's FSB is quad pumped. Your system freqency is 100MHz, and x 4=400MHz. The 533MHz parts are 4x 133. Assuming the memory is set to be the same base frequency as the system frequency of 100MHz, put that into DDR terms and it's running at 200MHz. For refrence, PC1600 ran at that speed, and your PC2100 may be underclocked at that speed, and PC2100 is 133MHz x 2, or 266MHz.
