CPU instruction set

i have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ socket 939 (manchester core) on an unknown motherboard.

having tried to run any programs with a doom 3 engine, i get an error message that SSE3 functions are not supported on CPU.

i have attached a screenshot from CPUZ, notice no mention of SSE instructions in the instructions list.

Matt555 is next to me, he knows nothing that might help!

Thats what Wiki said. Not very sure what it means, but im guessing either
A: Your motherboard has an intel chipset, and for one reason or another, it doesn't let the X2 decode SSE3, or....
B: The CPU is deffective... but very unlikely.

Intel chipsets + AMD = no go.

I'm not sure if there's even a motherboard that has an Intel chipset and supports AMD processors.

And yeah, I was sitting next to Ed as he posted that, with a confused look on my face...

P.S. it's an NF4 motherboard, I'll see if I can take a looksee inside Ed's case tomorrow and get a model number (the motherboard model / manufacturer was not listed in PCWizard or CPU-Z)

I've never come across this before, I don't see why SSE{1,2,3} is not listed apart from the Intel chipset. Even then I didn't know the chipset could affect the detection of instruction sets.

so if i were to change my motherboard for something decent, anyone got any recomendations? im looking around the £50-£80 mark

2gb DDR 3200 support
7800GT support (PCI-E)
SATA

i know its not a gaurenteed solution but the lack of any identifiable markings has been bothering me for a while.

Woah! Let's back up the upgrade truck.

I'm using an nF4 motherboard too, and I'm not having, and haven't had any issues relating to Doom 3, Quake 4 or Prey. If it were a chipset limitation, then I, and thousands of other NF4/AMD users would have the same issue.

Second point: I just popped up CPU-Z (version 1.36) and it's showing SSE, SSE2, and SSE3 instructions for my A64 3700+. It's not dual core, but since the X2's are a step up, I *highly* doubt they've been disabled.

How long have you noticed the SSE1/2/3 have been missing?
Have you downloaded the X2 driver?
What power supply are you using?
Have you checked BIOS to make sure you haven't disabled any advanced instructions?

Yea, it does seem to be a slightly odd problem.

SSE's have been missing since i got the bundle, must have been about 14 months so its not something new.

Have tried installing the latest X2 drivers, haven't checked the BIOS but i have flashed it (see screenshots ref. BIOS and chipset info.)

The power supply is a Hiper 4S425 (425W)
