cpu upgrade for asus A7A266

I have an ASUS motherboard A7A266 and updated the bios to 1012. At the following site http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=A7A266 it writes that Athlon xp cpu’s are supported with bios 1012, but since PCB 1.10. At my motherboard, near the pci slots it is printed Rev 1.04.
Does anyone knows if i can upgrade to Athlon xp cpu’s found at the above site.
My cpu is an AMD thunderbird 1000MHz.

I already know about the FAQ, but there is nothing mentioned about PCB so I can’t be sure. If this helps : PCB = Printed Circuit Board.

At the latest manual of the mobo (revision 1.04 E828) it is written:
Supports AMD’s socket-A Palomino/Thunderbird processor cores.
The last Palomino core can be found at Athlon XP 2100+ (1733 MHz).
So let’s presume that an upgrade to the above cpu (or lower) is possible, does it worth it? ( in performance difference from Thunderbird 1000MHz).
Take notice that Palomino supports SSE instructions
