Hello Everyone,

After some help if possible please?

I have a weird issue when i try to install games, basically i get an install error concerning either crc errors or Error 1335 concerning data cab errors. At first I thought it was the CD however, the problem occurs on all the games I have tried to install and at different times...sometimes on disc 1 other times disc 3 of an installation (World of warcraft, Dawn of War, LOTR Battle for Middle Earth). I tried a different DVD drive and IDE slot and cable still the same issue. I have memtested the memory and have run spinrite on the hard drive just in case and all comes out as fine. The only time the installation works is when i have copied it to the hard drive as an ISO and mounted it using Daemon tools.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could please..don't really fancy having to copy all games to the hard drive and install from there all the time..:(

CRC errors means Cyclic Redundancy Check

it is a Windoze Installer error that can occur .cab files on an installation media (usually a CD)

this issue can be caused by a dirt on a CD / DVD or CD / DVD reading problems it can also happen if the installation files are corrupt.

try these suggestions

  • Reboot system and try the installation again
  • Clean the CD / DVD
however, i thing you should re-install Windoze install engine, what OS are you using ?[ot]i know, read the full post[/ot] :doh:

Sorry by the way the title should read CRC or 1335 concerning data cab errors..

I'm using XP, and have tried downloading the latest Windows packager I think its 3.x, I've already tried the reboot and clean etc..but its not specific to one cd or game or drive!!

ok, Delete all temp files from the following locations
  • C:\Windows\temp

  • C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\local settings\temp

& uninstall & reinstall with a new Windows Installer, if that doesn't work Start > Run > services.msc
Scroll down to Windoze Installer and make sure that the service has started, If it has started then stop it & set the startup type as disabled

Restart your machine & re-enable it by doing the reverse
Start > Run > services.msc
Start the Windows Installer service
 
Have you tried disabling your firewall/anti-virus while installing or maybe installing the games in safe mode.
 
dunno then, i actually use Linux & found what i posted on google, usually , the first thing i come across is what the problem is
