DDR and DDR2 compatibility

Are ddr2 mobos backwards compatible with ddr(1) RAM. The reason i ask is that i have a mobo that has a BIOS thats incompatible with the particular pc6400 ram that i bought, however, there is an update that allows my RAM to work with it. However, i cant flash the BIOS w/o RAM in the system to begin with and i dont have any spare ddr2 RAM but i do have spare pc3200 ram. thanks.

p.s. MOBO - Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
w/ Nvidia 590 chipset

RAM - OCZ SOE 1024 (x2) PC6400 800 Mhz
[other RAM - Ultra 1024 PC3200 400 Mhz]
 
DDR2 and DDR are not compatible - they use different pins. and a DDR2 module physically won't fit into a DDR slot and a DDR module won't fit into a DDR2 slot.
 
Well unless you have a board that has DDR and DDR2 slots, which i'm pretty sure your board hasn't, you won't be able to physically fit you're DDR DIMM's in the new DDR2 sockets, let alone worry about backwards compatability, as the pins are different, so you really need some sort of DDR2 RAM in order to flash you're BIOS.

Have you tried your memory ? Because to know the BIOS version you need to have had the computer on so what I'd do is try it anyway and see what it does. If it doesn't work, you'll need compatible sticks, there's just no way around it.

I'd be surprised if it doesn't though. Looking at the list on their website, I don't see your memory. However, it doesn't mean it won't work, it just means it hasn't been tested.
