hey guys i have the following motherboard
MSI MS-7091 VER 1.2 Sockel 775 oem for Medion DDR ram - eBay Socket 775, Motherboards, Components, Computers. (end time 05-Feb-09 14:07:21 AEDST)

sorry about the messy link, and cause its an ebay link, but there was no where on the net that I could find my motherboards specs, anyway down to the subject, I currently have 1GB of DDR memory on my machine(2 x 512), and I want to add more ram, but DDR 2 ram seems to be much cheaper than DDR ram in Australia, so what I need help with is to know if my motherboard supports DDR2 ram, and if DDR2 ram is better than DDR ram.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to HWF :)

Found the specs of that motherboard:
CPU

Supports Intel® Pentium 4 Prescott LGA775 processors in LGA775 package.

Supports up to Pentium 4 3XX, 5XX sequence processor or higher speed.

Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.

Chipset

Intel® 915P chipset

- Supports FSB 533/800MHz.

- Supports DDR 400/333 memory interface.

Main Memory

Supports four DDR1 SDRAM memory modules.

Supports up to 4GB memory size.

Supports Dual channel DDR1.

Mounting and Dimension

M-ATX Form Factor: 24.38 cm (L) x 24.38 cm (W)

6 mounting holes

It appears to support DDR1. Unfortunately DDR1, DDR2 and DDR3 and not compatible with each other, so you can only use DDR1-400 or DDR1-333 memory, and not more than 4 GB.

Hey, that means ASRock are liars. In the manual for my motherboard it says:
There are some motherboards which support both DDR1 and DDR2, like apparently your motherboard. However you can't mix DDR1 and DDR2 together. So in this case you can use either DDR 1 or 2, but not both.

Mine doesn't support it though, there are only two DIMM slots, and DDR2 doesn't fit in either of them. So maybe the board does support it, but you just can't get it in.
