Difference between XP Home & Pro again? I forgot, sorry...

Yeah I tried doing a search real fast, but like half the posts here contain "pro" or "home" in them so that didn't work. So what does XP Pro have that XP Home doesn't?

Looking at the list, it's obvious Home is a crippled Professional version, as opposed to Professional being Home + "extra" features.

Home should be called Lite and Professional should be called Standard, although the marketing department would surely disapprove...
 
The key differences:
-Pro has much better networking capabilities
-Pro supports up to two physical processors, Home only supports one. (Home will run 1 dual-core CPU, and Pro can use up to 2 dual core CPUs. Maximum CPU support is determined by the # of sockets, not each core.)
 
Thanks, guys. On that list Karan linked, what does Encrypting File System and Access Control mean? (These features are both ticked under Pro but unticked under Home... in other words, Home doesn't have those 2 features)

Does that mean that on Home edition, u cannot make restricted accounts?? Like in Mega's WinXP security guide?
 
Encrypted File System lets you go into a file's properties and choose to encrypt it. Once you've encrypted it, only your user account can view the file.

I think access control refers to the Local Security Policy snap-in, in the Management Console. Basically it gives you more control over who can do what on your computer

You can run as a restricted user in XP Home, but you can't edit the permissions. The NTFS permissions have been stripped away in Home Edition
 
Home vs Pro is one of those "if you dont know the difference then there isnt one!" things in my opinion.
 
I think its the same as XP pro only with a different license. You know the bit where you check a box to say you agree with the conditions of using software when installing.... That must have different text.

I dont think ive ever read that text for any program!
