Different dvd drive error

A few days ago I posted about a dvd drive not being detected. I fixed that by reinstalling my drivers, this time I have a new problem. My dvd will not recgonize any cd or dvd. It simply says "D:\ is not a valid Win32 application."

I'm not very familiar with cd/dvd drivers, any information or help would be appreciated.

This sounds like an error in the file associations of Windows. Go to Start > Run and enter the following command:
Code:
regsvr32.exe "shell32.dll"
And then reboot.

Thanks for the help. I did what you said and after I entered the command it said

DllRegisterServer in shell32.dll succeeded

Then when I rebooted I still had the same problem.

Yes I can but I cant open anything on the cd or dvd.

What I mean by that is I can't just open the cd and run the exec file or I will just get the same error message telling me that D:\ is not a valid windows operation or w/e.

Maybe this will help, here is my specific model name:

LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S

Please, any help would be much appreciated.

Umm, I am running service pack one because im having trouble installig sp2.

77.77 nvidia drivers
latest mobo drivers

I don't know how to check anything else?

No I don't have a problem booting from a cd, and no I haven't ran memtest86.
I don't think i'm going to buy it either. Can we try something else?

lol, whoops

There is a yellow exclamation next to standard game port.

By the way, which download link do I choose at the memtest site?

The latest .zip file with the burnable ISO. You can still get a floppy version, but with people starting to skip using the floppy, you might want to pass .

For Memtest86, get version 3.3
For Memtest86+, version 1.7.

i have the same drive. i can't read or write to a cd or dvd.

this is a recent problem, and i've done this plenty.

after this problem, i cleaned the lens, and it looks good. i put a cd in, and it tries to read a blank cd (or any other cd that i've used before with stuff on it).

any things i can do to try and fix this? (maybe start a new thread?) i'd like to claim that i'm "pretty good" with working in sensitive hardware (i work with a mass spec at work, clean it and do regular maintainance... a cd drive shouldn't be a problem) i also have all the tools.

less than 2 years, hardly ever used for writing to a disc... shoot, hardly ever used for reading a disc... mostly when i'm reformatting (once every 6 months or so...)
