Dodgy fan

Computer crashed when cpu became overheated. Took cover off discovered fan not spinning . Fan started spinning happily when I gave it a slight nudge with a pencil, computer runs happily provided I do this. What's ther answer guys, new fan? It's a bit of an odd shape, I am finding it difficult to get a similar one, it's 70mm across (fan blades 65mm across). I am a total novice at this game, any ideas anyone. UN

You're lucky that your CPU didn't get fried :)

Personally I'd replace the fan immediately, but that's because I get very paranoid about these things! It may have been a one off though, so you might want to monitor it over the next few days and see how it goes. Also you might want to install SpeedFan so you can monitor the fan's RPM within Windows

one thing, make sure you get a new ball-barring fan instead of a crappy sleave fan, there much better
