drop-in replacing a p4 2.4ghz ht with a p4 3ghz ht?

Will it work?
I have a dell precision 360 running an intel motherboard (i875p)
with socket 478.
A 2.4ghz p4 HT 800mhz fsb cpu.
I'd like to just pick up a 3ghz ht p4 800fsb and replace the 2.4
(hopefully one with hardware virtualization support, if possible)
Do I have all the info I need to find the correct replacement cpu?

(By the way, this is my first post, hello everyone. I hope to make some contributions in the future. I obviously have old hardware-as funds are limited, but I hope to be able to share some knowledge nonetheless)
 
Not sure it will work, It might... But that is a pretty big jump from a 2.4 to 3.0 ghz.. Your FSB is right 800 mhz, I would just try to see what happens..
 
I think that it will work, I am not sure about the hardware virtualization, though.

to be 100% sure, I would look at the datasheet and check the CPU support list of the motherboard that's in your PC.
 
these cpu's are like 90nm ready good thing about them they have hyper threading adds a virtual core, as ejdis says check cpu support list but i can't find anything on it. when it comes to installing new cpu gennerally depends if it's same socket also what nm ready the chip is and wether you need a bios update to support that nm ready chip. if worse comes to it you will just need a bios update can be done from within dos. but im sure these chips are both 90nm ready so you shouldnt have a problem.
