Dual channel problem

Hey guys, I recently bought new ram for my pc, Kingston DIMM 1 GB (Retail, DD400-X64-C3AK2, Dual Channel Kit)

Product information page
Detailed information about product

The main reason I bought this was because I thougt my old Twinmos brand (2 x 512 Dual Channel Also) dimm's weren't recognized as dual channel because it wasn't in the "qaulified vendors list" according to my mobo manual (ASUS A8V Deluxe)

I looked everywhere on the ASUS homepage for an answer to my question; How I could check to see if my memory was running in dual channel mode. I found a topic in their forums that answered it, it should be noticable after the ramcoumt during the boot sequence. It doesn't say anywhere that it needs to be enabled in my BIOS (latest version 1014.008)

I installed both new dimms in the 2 blue colored slots from the 4 I have total and I left the older ones out, so with my new set of memory qualified by ASUS I should have got a message somewhere after my ramcount, it didn't came. I might be blind though, I tried looking for it in normal boot instead of quickboot, should I look for it somewhere else then? Maybe one of you guys could tell me where I can find this confirmation message saying my modules are running in dual channel mode?

At the moment I have both new and old dimms installed, so I have 2 Gig RAM total, I also read that in order to run all 4 modules in dual channel mode I need to have 4 exactly the same modules, this is true right? Then I can't possibly achieve dual channel on all 4's at the moment. But maybe that isn't true, and all 4 are running DH already?!

Help me out here will ya?! :D

For dual channel, both sticks must be identical, and so ahving the 2GB won't work in dual channel i'm afraid.

If I take out the older ones, there should be some increase in startup speed or some other way I can see dual channel is working?

I did so before and didn't see much of a difference. :ohah:

When the system posts, right above where it lists the drives it should say something like
'RAM speed is 400Mhz Dual Channel enabled' !
If you can't see this message at post press the pause key to read it and then enter to continue the boot sequence.

There is no message at post, but after removing the 2 TwinMOS sticks from the black slots, my computer seems te boot much quicker than it used to, but I also have been messing around in the bios.

Tweaking some futures using The definitive bios optimization guide submitted by someone on these forums, this could also be one of the reasons of my faster boot, since it involved many recommendations for setting memory, cpu and other options. This might be strange idea but I have a digital camera which I could use to make pictures of my monitor when it's in progress of booting.

Isn't there a program somewhere which detect if your memory is running in dual channel mode?

@ pelvis_3; Do you own the same mainboard? It could make a difference if you don't.

I used CPUz which I found by just googleing for my anser, it says channels # and there it says "Dual" so I guess you guys can stop posting answers.

download here when you want

Funny thing; My mainboard supports Cool'n Quiet which keeps the processor @ low speeds when idle, when I use CPUz it says my speeds it 1099 Mhz. Thank god the program refreshes all the info realtime, when I start an application my speeds go up to the frequency I oc'ed it to. :O

Lol, I'm such a n00b here.

Here's what CPUz gave me, even after plugging in my old sticks making a whopping total of 2 Gig Ram it still says dual channel is on.

The processor speed is off, because of the Cool & Quiet enabled, it goes up to +/- 2800 Mhz, but the fat line above tells me I'm having dual channel enabled right?
