Dual Monitor Setup with a portable Projector?

I have been searching the web to see if it is possible/ a good idea to use a portable projector as a second monitor. I travel a lot and it can get annoying at times staring at my small screen. I've read that projectors are only good in the dark, but others tell me it can be used be with some light. Anyone else have any suggestions and info about this?

It should be possible to use the projector as a monitor, and you shouldnt need to turn out all the lights, but the darker it is in the room, the better you will be able to see it. You also would need to be sure where you are going has a wall or screen that you can project onto which is flat and light enough in color that you would be able to see once you use the projector. I'm not sure how big a portable projector is, but the ones in our conference rooms are pretty good size, and when the bulb in them goes usually costs a few hundred dollars to replace. It may be easier and more cost efficient to get a flat screen monitor that you can take with you when you travel, but as I said, I dont know the dimensions of a portable projector so you would have to see for yourself before you decide. :)

Yea I have seen those big confrence size projectors, and those lamp replacement prices are enough to give someone a heart attack. I hear the newer projectors are starting to use LED, which can last anywhere from 10-20K Hours!!! That is a loooong time! Looking into portable LED projectors, I found this one by aaxa tech. Don't know much about the company but their m2 unit offers everything I need as well as a LED light source. I found a review too!

After reading that review I ended up ordering the aaxa tech m2! It came in yesterday and the quality is amazing! I couldn't be more happy :D
