soo i tried to hooked up my Seagate 160GB Sata hard drive in this Eagle-Tech External enclosure. Plugged it into the computer. My comp recognized the USB storage connection but isnt reading the amount of storage the HD has. I've tried all i could htink to try on it but nothing. Disconnected n reconnected the external enclosure, dismounting adn remounting the hd inside the case.

what else can i try?

have you tried formatting the drive ?

as, it may not be formatted, & your OS will probably require the drive to be formatted first before it can access anything on the drive & is there any yellow triangles in device manager (assuming your using XP)

can you try removing the HDD from the caddy and connect it via the internal SATA connection and obviously assign a drive letter to the drive and possibly format the drive

doing this will test the external enclosure is working, if the drive is able to be assigned a drive letter, the external enclosure may be knacked, or, try a different USB port (as many as you can) or even try the drive / enclosure on an entirely different system, if all that fails, i would suspect a faulty enclosure, even if it is new, it may be rare, but, it does happen

Hai,

Can you view your HDD partations in "My Computer". If no just right-click on "My Computer" icon on Desktop and select manage. Then select STORAGE and then DISK MANAGEMENT. In the window check weather your HDD is shown or not. If no there is some problem with your HDD or the enclosure. If yes check weather the space in the HDD is denoted as UNALLOCATED. If yes, just right-click on it and make a new partation then you can view it in My Computer. If your HDD is not shown in DISK MANAGEMENT window there will be some hardware problem. Firstly connect your HDD directly to your motherboard using SATA cable and check. If there is no problem your external enclosure may have some problem. In the external enclosure there is a SATA to USB converter circuit, replace it and try again. If your HDD is not detecting while connecting directly to mother board, there is some problem with your HDD. I think you can find your solution from my answer....

i cannot test it through my internal connection due to the HDD being Sata and i have IDE internal connection so i just went and exchanged it for a different external enclosure and i got it up and running.
