Just wondering opinions on the subject, and for quick reference, all government income would be from taxes on products. I dunno, it honestly really is only good in theory, and for low income people, like, those on minimum wage, it would basically mean you wouldn't be able to buy anything, and items that are anything over 1k would cost a FORTUNE in taxes, cars/homes would be unaffordable. .... lol, on the plus, it would solve the issue of taxing those who purchase on the internet, and taxing illegal immigrants, as well as those who get paid "under the table".

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and he made a good case for it, i guess like 25% wouldn't really be that crazy, really expensive things would be even more expensive, but maybe it would make people who can't really afford them think twice. I agree with what you said though donkey, people "of" power would find a way to abuse and take advantage of the system, so it probably would solve nothing...

Well, technically income tax is unconstitutional. It was originally introduced during WW2 to bolster the war effort, and it's been in effect ever since. Rich people don't pay taxes, plain and simple. They launder money through offshore accounts and tax shelters. The middle class support the poor and the entire tax structure almost independently.

Wars.... all they do is kill, in any form, whether its life or freedom, thats all any war has ever accomplished. I mean, yeah, WWII was important, having the world run by a Nazis wouldn't be a good time, but during times of war, governments run wild and use it as an excuse to accomplish whatever kind of control they want.

It's important to note that a lot of the powers that be argue that war creates jobs and revenue. Some even argue that WW2 saved the US economy. However, I would argue that the new deal is what saved the economy by bolstering the working class, not the war. To me, war fits perfectly in the parable of the broken window. In other words, the argument goes something like, "If a kid breaks a someone's window, they end up paying the window maker for the replacement. So by throwing a rock, the kid is indirectly helping the economy." In reality, the result is a net loss, since the person who owned the window is down one window and the cost of a new one. He could have spent that money someplace else, e.g. bought bread from the baker. It's essentially the same with war. War is an investment in destruction, so not only are you losing money on the munitions and logistics, you're losing everything that's destroyed in the process -- not the least of which is human life.
