file? how do i not download these

Hi, i have started trying to download some MP3's on my new computer, however when i do it only lets me save them as "file" or "document" sometimes saying "html document" for the file type. thinking this was a bit strange i still downloaded them and could still play them in windows media player (a message just came up saying it is not sure if the file type was compatible- do you want to proceed, and when i clicked yes it played it).

Now I want to make a CD out of them but none of the programs will let me open these files saying that they are not compatible.

It will only let me download it in this file type for somereason and it isnt my computer- other computers are downloading them fine (as MP3 files)

Does anyone know how i can either convert these files or will i have to download them again- if so how do i do so, so that they download in an mp3/ audio format.

I'm assuming your right clicking and selecting 'save as' and if so you will have to re-download them and just click on the link and it should download as an MP3!

Nah tried that. I downloaded them as normal- and it wouldnt let me get them as mp3's so i tried going to "save as/ Save target As" but the same problem occured.

Please also not that I am downloading it from a website- not a program such as i-tunes. Many thanks
 
Sounds like one of the pirate music sites available, but as we don't endorse this and I don't want to make any accusations, we will assume you are downloading songs from an unsigned band or similar free music site.

They often have 'protection' on their files so when you try downloading the file from the direct link, it downloads a .htm or .txt.

I find that going File>>Page Save As usually does the trick, and all the files will be downloaded to your computer, such as images and text, but the MP3 is usually found within.

Also try a download manager as pelvis stated.
Failing that, try FireFox (if you aren't already), as clicking a link to a direct file always starts a download, in my experience.

yer, i have tried all of that. And no, i am downloading from a legitimate site- I have paid for the songs! I have tried to download the same songs on another computer and they download as normal mp3's so i can only assume that it is my computer
 
The only thing i could think of is to copy the link location and paste it into the address bar or a downloading program as i mentioned!
 
have u tried renaming it..so that at the end of the file has the extension '.mp3'
eg. if ur song is backstreet boys incomplete..it may be written as 'incomlete.mp3.html'..
just change the name to 'incomplete.mp3' removing .html
could u give the name of the song..right click the song and go to properties to view the name
 
which site are you using to download these songs?

as as suggested renaming the extensions to .mp3 should do the trick.

to do this you will need to go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types

Then you should be able to see the extension of all files, and allow you to rename easily.
