Free DVD Codec?

megamaced

Geek Geek Geek!
I am looking for a free MPEG-2 DVD codec that is preferrably compatible with either Windows Media Player or Realplayer. Oh, and I would prefer one that does NOT come bundled with Spyware!

It appears that the DVD codecs/players of today require far more system resources then they used to.

I can't even play DVDs on my P3 1.0GHz, and the computer I want the codecs for is only 500MHz.

I'll have to try and get hold of an old copy of WinDVD or PowerDVD. Probably one manufacturered about 4 years ago.

I think WinDVD 5 is probably old enough

Wont WMP work for you? I used to use WinDVD on a 633 celeron. I continued to use it on my newer pcs but then ended up not bothering because WMP did everything I wanted.

The playback is very slow because of the lack of system resources. If I went for an older DVD program it'd probably work OK

That's a great media player, Nic :)

But unfortunately, it also runs a little too slow on my friend's ageing Pentium

I've always used VLC, AsusDVD or WMP at my home but after watching your computer configuration it seems that you need a small player. I searched on the net and come across these players. Personally I've never used it so I cant say much about it. They are small and I believe will hopefully resolve your problem ..........
