games problem

hi, i'm not sure where to post this but as i think it may be my graphics card i'll post it in here.

ok heres my problem

when i try to play games on my computer, i get onto the menu screens and stuff ok, but when i go into the main part of the game my pc just freezes. also when i go to change the games resolution it just freezes too. i know it cant be the games because i have played them before. at first my monitor was saying there wa no signal but i could just alt+tab back to windows and it would come back on. is there anything i could do to sort it out without having to buy new parts? :(

Is it more than one game?
If its just the one game try reinstalling it. Or update graphics drivers.
When you say it freezes when you change the resolution is this when your in the menus before you start the actual game? (as opposed to pressing pause and doing then) If so it probably is a graphics driver issue.
Have you changed anything on the computer?

its all games. i thought it may be the drivers so i got the newest catalyst drivers, still not working.

yeah, it can go up to 1600x1200.


its really annoying, maybe i mite start a fresh and format and reinstall ewveryting, see wat that gives me
 
How long have you had this problem, is it a recent occurence? Have you changed anything in your PC recently?

Try unplugging all the cables and cards (including memory sticks) and reseating them before you format and reinstall everything.
 
ok, i figured out that its a heat issue. seeing as my card has no fan, only a heatsink, i tried putting a large house fan pointing into my computer and its seems to do the trick.

i have ati utility here, shall i lower my core and mem values? i havnt upped them but i figured lowering them may help cool my gpu a bit. correct me if i am wrong.

Well, if it's the system in your sig, you might check the airflow through your case. The 9200's aren't beasts, so the heat output shouldn't be that high. If it's not the airflow through the case, then it could be that the heatsink isn't making proper contact with the GPU.

I'd only lower the clock speeds if you're overclocking.
 
I have exactly the same problem in my X600XT... It just freezes in every single game I try to run. I went to some foruns and they said to shutdown Antialiasing and anisotropy, but nothing worked. However, I don't think it's excessive heating, fan's seem to be working fine and temperature seems normal... =\

How can I check GPU's temperature?

It depends on what make your graphics card is. I'm not sure if the ATi Catalyst Control Center tells you the temperature, but my graphics card came with a utility called TRIXX (my card was made by Sapphire) designed to overclock it and it tells you the temperature. Check any programmes that came with your card. Also try SpeedFan (just search it in google).
