If only I read this before.
I have ST 330 working flawlesly both on Mandriva and *ubuntus.

As soon as I get home I will edit this post with the best ever guide to get the 330 working in Linux. I cannot remember the amount of times I have set-up my modem without one glitch!

But saying all this a modem/router is where I would prefer to go.
It gives you the utmost freedom when installing Linux.
With the speedtouch set-up it is much easier if you have a windows manager running.

See you later - you will see...... you will not fail!

I do not understand what happenned! I am sure I have posted a reply with the link and now it has disapeared!

Anyways, here is the link to the only instructions I have found to work, each and every time. Without fail and not one glitch. I have lost count of the times I have set-up my ST330. If you follow the instructions to the letter, you should be on line within 10-15 Minutes.
Now, I only set-up the modem on Mandriva and *ubuntu so cannot comment about other distros.

Here it comes - Linux kernel driver for SpeedTouch USB modems homepage

Please let me (the forum) know how you got on, not that I doubt the method or anything.... :eek:hah:

By the way, Mandriva can orgenise it's own connection via the modem. A number of times, I have managed to connect with Mandriva completely out of the box. However, this connection was always a bit shaky and a few times I lost connection without being able to connect again  Another downside to the method is that, in Mandriva, this method calls up Shorewall which is not the best of firewalls. But I am sure that a competant Linux geek will be able to work aroud this.

    Good luck!

Thanks very much for the link, Sabashuali. I'll have a good read-up on it all and give it a go some time next week. ;)
