Good Firewire hard drive enclosures?

I need a Firewire enclosure to use with my iMac. I just want an external drive for general use, and I think buying an enclosure is good because I can use one drive for backup, take it out and store it somewhere else. Which ones are good? XPC Gear make the cheapest aluminum one I see, are they good?

Also is there anything really tricky about buying the drives themselves?

To be honest, unless your buying a FireWire 800 drive enclosure, i think that you should get a USB2 drive enclosure.

USB2 is 60 MegaBytes per second, FireWire 400 is only 50 MegaBytes per second... Allthough the actual speed that data moves is Dependant on the quality of the controller and the device.

Also, you can use a USB2 hard drive with virtually any computer.... firewire is not as common (and that can be a real PITA if your trying to move tens of Gigabytes of data!)

Also, you will want to get a enclosure that connects to a SATA hard drive (and also, obviously, a SATA hard drive!)
