Hard Drive compatability

Is it possible to have two hard drives on the same mobo with different
connections ie 1 withSATA and 1 with IDE 9or whatever).:confused:
 
the difference between IDE & SATA is the same as the difference between serial & parallel
EDIT: SATA doesn't set master / slave as there is only 1 drive per data cable, just set all SATA drives to master
 
SATA drives may not have master/slave jumpers...if they're native SATA. However, IF there is a Master/Slave jumper block, have it set to master. The only exception is the first generation Western Digital SATA drives that had some oddball jumper configuration. I don't remember exactly what the deal was, but if you do a little searching, it should come up pretty easily.

PATA/IDE drives can be configured as normal. If you're running one drive per cable, then it's suggested you set them to Master, but it's not necessary.

There's no wierd voodoo here.
 
from where do install the OS?? does it matter? it seems that when I install XP on the IDE, it crashes just about 2 minutes later i install the chipset drivers. tried installing XP on the SATA, still the same..... what am i doing wrong???

have you installed the SATA drivers ?
during XP install (press F6 when prompted and use floppy or CD to install SATA drivers)
 
yes, and no, i dont really know.... my mobo cd was damaged when i bought it so i resolved to get it myself from gigabyte website. I did all that f6 thing, coz if i didnt it wouldnt even recognize the drive. can you help me find the right drivers plz? my mobo is a gigabyte K8N Ultra SLI
 
Its the easiest thing for me to do............searching...
