Hard Drive Problem

I'm Getting a Hard Drive from my friend soon and there is something wrong with it, While their computer was restoring, like with the DVD thing you use, someone shut it off in the middle of it. So he says that his computer wont turn on now and so he is giving the harddrive to me. I wanted to know if i would be able to fix it somehow. And it is an IDE harddrive like the one in my comp now. So if i were to fix it he says i can have it. How would i go about taking my harddrive out so i can test his, and then would i be able to use his if i did fix it, like would i have to get anything else extra or can i just plug it into my empty ide cord?

well removal of your current HDD is easy, likewise with installing a new one. its all down to replacing screws that hold the hdds into place and switching the IDE and power cables - just make sure you insert the ide cable the right way

it seems extreamly odd that your friends pc won't switch on, it is highly unlikely (or merly impossible) that it was caused due to an interrupted backup or restore, but if your friend is still willing to give over his HDD to you then you WILL need all the 'drivers' for your system, otherwise most devices will not function correctly
