Hardware compatibility

Hi.

I'm on a "short" budget and i really want to make an upgrade to my PC.

Here's what i currently got:

Code:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 LE-1640
Processor AMD Athlon™

Dimensionss 145mm x 69mm

I was "browsing" a website with some cheap components and after comparing i got to these two:

Processor: AMD AM2+/ AM3 Athlon II X2 255
Socket: AM3
Number of pins: 940
Model: AMD Athlon II X2 255
Frequency: 3.10 Ghz
Front Side Bus: 2000 Mhz
Cache Memory: 2 MB Level 2
Fabrication Technology: 45 nm
Cooler: Yes

Video card: SAPPHIRE SPH-EHD5750V1G
Slot: PCI Express 2.1
Occupied Slots: Dual Slot
Processor: ATI Radeon HD5750
Processor Frequency: 710 Mhz
Memory: 1024 MB
Type: DDR 5
Bandwidth: 128 Bit
Frequency: 4640 Mhz
DVI: Yes
HDMI: Yes
Display Port: Yes
Shader: 5.0
OpenGL: 3.2
DirectX: 11

Would these two components work on my current motherboard? And if they do, how much performance will i lose since my motherboard is an older version - PCIE x16 and AM2/AM2+/AM3 hybrid sort of slot? http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=N61P-S

You'r replies would be of great help!

I don't think the CPU is compatible. It's not listed in the support list. Even though your motherboard states it supports AM3 cpu's at a cost, i wouldn't do it. Besides if you install an AM3 Athlon in there, the connection from the cpu to the entire system will be slower (ie ram).
(If you use AM3 / AM2+ CPU on AM2 chipset motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0 (5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s), but the CPU frequency will not be influenced)

If you're looking to game, get the AM2+Phenom II X3, if you can find one. The graphics card is compatible.

after taking a look on the CPU's list i couldn't find a suitable one for my budget.i think i will stick to changing only the GPU for now and the motherboard &CPU in the near future.

do you guys think that my current CPU (Athlon 1640 LE) and the new GPU(EHD5750) could handle some newer games on a "moderate" setting?

from my experience the CPU doesn't matter too much if the GPU is a good one.on the current pc i can play ModernWarfare2 on High on 1024x768 at around 40-60 fps. Also Dirt 2 on 1024x768 on medium, same for Crysis.

Could the EHD 5750 give alot more performance compared to my 8400GS Super?

P.S. i know i might sound stupid, but i don't have too much hardware knowledge

after looking for some more details about the video card, i think it doesn't have a VGA connector :|

can anyone confirm this?my monitor has only VGA- no HDMI >_<"

ok i got some other video cards.can you tel me which one is better?

Yes, but medium settings like you said.

Not exactly. Game wise, having a fast GPU and a slow CPU is like having a Lambo that tops out at 60mph. And vice versa. They both go hand in hand.

Could the EHD 5750 give alot more performance compared to my 8400GS Super?
lol, you're joking right?! Compare the specs of both cards and notice the whopping difference between the two...! The 5750 has major improvements and is generally faster.

As for the two cards above... theyre both similar in performance so either will do... but the 5750 is better.

thanks, i learned alot from you.i would choose the 5750 but it doesn't have a VGA connector so, i will have to choose one of those two, since my monitor only has a VGA connector (15 PIN D-SUB) :(

or, could you suggest me a similar card to the 5750 but with D-Sub connector?it would be great to find one similar in performance and price ^_^

once again thanks for your replies :D

you could get a dvi to vga adapter if needed.

just don't let that be the reason for not purchasing what you really want.

omg you saved me.
THANKS!

back to the SAPPHIRE SPH-EHD5750V1G

now i'm so pumped up, i think i'm gonna order it today! :p

thanks a lot for replies and support.best forum ever! :D

lmao, now i just feel stupid :p. i never liked those adapters because they're all so clunky.
Let us know how your setup goes!

while talking with the operator ( sales man) on the phone he asked me some questions to be sure the card is compatible with my system >_<"

and we got to the conclusion that the video card to be fully compatible with my system, the only problem being: it's a 2slot video card.my PC case has only "normal" slots.he suggested i change the order to a 5670 which is 1 slot.

he also gave me a link with the specs of the board:
Code:
General
Slot Version: PCI Express 2.1
Occupied Slots: Single Slot
Processor: ATI Radeon HD5670
Frequency: 775 Mhz
Memory: 1024 MB

Frequency: 4000 Mhz
Conectors
15 Pin D-SUB: Da
DVI: Da
HDMI: Da
Others
OpenGL: 3.2
DirectX: 11

should i take this one or should i "chop" the PC case and make some space for the 5750?

ah its all good. i just noticed that and was thinking the adapters work just fine. i used them a lot.

what did you mean by normal slots?
what kind of case do you have if you know?
if you don't know then try taking a picture of it from the side with the side exposing the computer parts inside and showing us the pci ports.
