HDD problem?

Hey, i noticed that my 20GB Seagate HDD seems to be shutting down all the time, i can hear it shutting down and starting because it makes a click noise, and i dunno why it shuts down, the HDD is just for Windows XP Onliny, right now i am in Windows Vista, could it be some new power saving option or could it be a faulty drive? The Molex power connector is firmly in and the IDE Cables are perfectly fine.

Older hard drives tended to be louder and have noticeable noise when the read/write heads were moving. Of course, if it's just starting to do this, then you should back up the data, as clicking tends to mean the drive is on the way out.

Hey Will,

Happened to my HDD's in Vista too, there's some power setting options if you use the search function in the start menu and you can set specifics telling it never to sleep. It stopped doing it with my HDD's after that.

Well if its power saving options, i think i will do it to all my drivers, the mroe Electricity i can save the better :p, it just does it at random times though, i never need to access the drive because all it has is a Windows XP installation on, so it should always be turned off really.
