Help installing xp

Hi all,
The problem is I get to 30% of setup is copying files & every thing hangs everything checks out ok rechecked build changed cables etc same thing happens any ideas please!
 
If you have two optical drives, try putting the XP CD in the other drive.
It has worked for me in the past!
 
Make sure your jumpers are set right on your CDROMs, the device at the end of the cable furthest from the motherboard should be jumpered to master and the one in the middle (if any) should be jumpered as slave.

Next check your memory and make sure it's kosher. I recommend you run Memtest86+ on your system overnight. If it has even one memory error after that, you have a problem with either your RAM or your northbridge.

Let us know how it turns out...

Jumpers are right,have removed 1mem stick out and am trying again.
 
One thing you can take a look at, but most time's it's a long shot, look to see if your motherboard has any bulging capacitors. bulgy=bad, they should all be flat at the top.

If you do find any faulty capacitors, you're lookin at replacing the motherboard.

Thanks for the idea but I have know idea what to look for ,please explain.
 
They look like This.
And if they look like This, then you may be in trouble down the track.
This usually indicates cheap components or dirty power from your PSU!
Although, it'd be extremely rare that blown capacitors would cause your problem at 30% of the install Every time, or even at all!

I've had agood look and all capacitors checkout ok.Have also got memtest and no probs there either.
 
Try turning off Fast Writes and Sideband Addressing in the BIOS.
Unplug absolutely everything unneccessary during the install including printers, cameras and MP3 playes etc.
Take out sound cards, network cards, secondary hard drives and modems etc.
If you don't have any external sound or network cards, disable them in the BIOS.
If all this doesn't help at all, try grabbing a copy of UltimateBootCD and formatting the partition you plan on installing windows on.

I'm afraid so. I have tried all the suggestions now on this thread I have now got to 35% on copying setup files after rebuilding everything am now going to try just the cdr on its own I will get back to you thanks.
 
Try putting the Hard Drive on the Secondary IDE Channel and the CDROM on the Primary IDE Channel :cool:

Cigarette smoke is extremely hard on optical drives and can cause their premature failure. Try a drive from a non-smoker's system and see if it works then.

Not to mention all other components in a computer. Can also erode motherboards, Expansion cards etc... Screw up Floppy Read/Write Heads.

Could'nt do that could the problem be with the xp disc ,how can I check disc I have another computer?
