Help Needed...Please!!!

Hey,


I recently bought the Toshiba Equium A100-147. This one:

Currys - Shop for Laptops - TOSHIBA A100-147 INTEL CORE DUO T2050 PROCESSOR 1.6GHz LAPTOP


I didn't buy it to play games, but I have tried to install a few, with only one actually working. Keep getting DirectX error messages and, with one game, an message saying, "Cyclic Redundancy Error", or something like that. I've tested DirectX and it works fine. And, I've always installed them onto another computer and copied them over to this machine, but this doesn't seem to work. It tries to open the game but completely fails. The laptop more than meets the requirements. Any help would be great. Otherwise it's going back!

Problem is not ur Laptop but its ur CD. I had this problem long time ago when i was trying to use my old CD's. Also there were some CD's if I look closesly I can see spots on the silver part of the CD.

Thing is, the game is brand new and it worked in another computer. Completely installed and was able to play it. But on the laptop only manages to get half way through the installation before it gives me that message. The game is
Enter The Matrix. I've also had trouble with Call Of Duty 2. Both with requirements my laptop can easily handle.

Could there be a problem with my CD drive or maybe the graphics card?

Yes, your CD drive could be a problem. CRC is sometimes used to check that data hasn't been corrupted, as a small change in the data will result in a different hash being produced. It may be your CD drive is faulty and corrupting data.

I would try and have the drive tested, or better install another drive and see if you have the same problem.
 
Yeah, that sounds like it could be the problem. So could it be that the cd drive does not work properly (or is broken) or just the way in which the drive works?

With two other games I've tried to install, it has given me Direct X error messages, saying there is problems with it and one said that Direct X 3D could not be found. And when I tested them, they were running fine.

I'm considering taking the laptop back and having it replaced. I knew it wouldn't be able to play games with huge requirements, but I thought I'd be able to at least play the few that I had bought.

Hey guys,

Just to let everyone know, I've sorted out the problem with the game. Thanks for your help.

Basically, I couldn't get the game to install in my drive, so I networked the computer with another computer and used the cd drive of that one to install it on this machine. The game still wouldn't play, but I found a patch for the game and that sorted it out.

The game is running pretty slow though, so if you have any suggestions on sorting that out, that would be cool. I'm going to have a go at it now.
