Help Pease ! New pc no Internet connect

I just built my new rig and XP is screwing around with me I think . I cannot get it to connect . Will it not connect if windows isnt activated ? That is probly my problem ....I have an asus a8n mobo and am trying to use the network connection on it but it refuses to function . I am quite frusterated .:ff:
 
ive got tht motherboard too (premium version)

I also had the same problem that it wont connect to my broadband so what i did was take the power connector out of the modem and leave for a few seconds then plug it back in, this did the trick for me.
 
I got it fixed . It was the cable providers problem . All My devices are working properly . Thanks guys -A:ff:
