Help!!!

I don't know what's happened! I've just freshly installed Windows XP Pro (I was on Windows 2000) and for some unknown reason, I've lost 0.5GHz of my processor! It was an Athlon 2400 but now it it seems to think it's an Athlon 1800!! What's going on?!?!?!
 
It should be set with a 15x multiplier and 133MHz FSB. If it's not setup like that in BIOS, that might be the problem. If you're not sure, grab CPU-Z and check it out.
 
if its a mobile chip too you will prob find its just defaulted to some weird values in the bios. mine did that at shows at 100 fsb x 6 default !!! even though its a barton 2500 mobile!

just set it to the proper fsb and mulit, or even better, overclock it a bit
 
Now this is very odd. I had a look with CPU-Z. It said it was 100 with 15x multiplier. Fair enough! But when I go into my BIOS, is says 133 and no matter how many times I exit and save, it stays the same values according to CPU-Z! I had this same problem when I first bought the computer and when I took it back, they sorted it out in minutes. The problem is, my warranty has run out and they would have to charge me to sort it out again. :( I'm now officially puzzled so any help is appreciated! :good:
 
freaky. that happened to mine when i first built it. my 2700 was only recognised as a 2100. i can't remember how i got it to work at 2700 though.
 
I notice your mobo is the same as mine (MSI K7N2 Delta-L) ... could be an inherent fault ... although I doubt it! I'm just stumped.
 
Not sure, but I did play around with the K7N2 Delta-L (back when the nF2 had some serious memory compat issues) and I seem to remember an FSB jumper. Not sure, but you might wanna check. That can really throw you for a loop.

Make sure that your not confusing your RAM speed and FSB speed. While they do work side by side, they can be independently adjusted, and that might be where you're running into confusion.
 
Well, I actually found my motherboard's manual and I read about the jumpers (seeing as how I've never messed with them before!) and according to the manual, it has always been set to safe/100 mode. But I changed it to user/default mode, and it wouldn't even get past the POST. I thought I had blown my video card because my monitor wouldn't switch on but when I eventually got it going, it said something about the CMOS setting itself to default. So whatever has happened, it's all very wierd!
Oh, and it still thinks it's an Athlon 1800XP!
 
:D *pelvic thrust* It was the jumpers! I just wiggled them and hey presto, it now works and I have my 2400XP back! But why it registered as a 2400XP before when I didn't mess with the jumpers, I don't know! :confused:
