How do you people get around

The accents are what messes things up. Say mum in an american accent. Its something that happens in different countries. You can drive 15mins down the road in the UK and not understand a word of what people are saying cos our accents are so diverse. Especially where I live. We have our cestrian accent, the mancs in manchester, the scousers in liverpool, the welsh in wales, the placcy scousers on the wirral.
Go to Birmingham and they say chimney as chimley!

Also British isnt the 'real' english.
Our nation is properly called United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is England, Wales and Scotland.
The Welsh speak welsh, the Scots speak scot Gaelic and the English speak English. There is no British language. You see on windows British English and American English but that cos our keyboards are set out differently. Nothing worse than pressing " and getting @!

The welsh/scot languages are used. We live on the welsh border and before we got sky our tv would be in welsh before 6pm. Not every program but more than enough not to bother watching telly! The scottish have non-english telly too. There are whole schools only 10mins from here that refuse to teach the english language! What plank would send thier kid there!?

Ireland and the Isle of Man have thier own versions of Celtic/Gaelic... I dont know for certain though... not my language!



Yeah, Gas is short for Gasoline which is the part of crude oil we use. Us Brits are wrong to called it petrol cos petrol is short for petroleum which is another name for crude oil. It would seem a bit daft to say im off to the crude oil station to fill up my tank! Not that ill ever call it gas! :-) We should called LPG petrol really.

You live in Hemel Matt? Dang man, you're close to where I live. :P

You may have the Magic Roundabout, but I'm from the city that's been dubbed "The City of Roundabouts" Milton Keynes. :P There's so many roundabouts it's just insane.

On the topic subject though, having a challenging road system does wonders for your navigation skills, and I will admit some of the maps for the UK look like someone's spilled spaghetti all over the page.

Cool, I'm living in Leicester at the minute as I'm at Uni, so I have to travel past Milton Keynes on the motorway to get here, luckily not through it... that place is a concrete jungle, each junction looks just like the last and you end up going mad!
 
yeah, well i guess on an upside, if your up for a modern day adventure, you can just go drive around your streets. XD

I always did wonder why we have concrete cows, maybe that's why, concrete cows for a concrete jungle. ;)

You wanna google earth north wales... they dont have streets just dirt tracks. A "visit wales" advert on the telly said one thing to do in wales is get lost driving around whilst reading funny road signs.

This place is not a blag... its not too far from where I live.

Longest word in existence I believe. But why on earth do you need FOUR 'l's in a row? Is that even grammatically possible? I know it's Welsh but still... there has to be something up with that. :P
 
I think two l's in a row are classed as one letter in welsh so its only really two letters. Even in this message ive done the same 5 times!
ll is normally "cla" so god knows what llll is!

I was going to say, that was completely random as all get out, (considering this is about the most random and hardly on topic thread ever, but i like it.
All that said, streets around here are real easy to navigate, everything is squares..... which also gets REALLY boring to.

That's the same here. All roads are squares, and if there is even a small dent in the road, it gets fixed immediately. But if you go to Belgium or Germany, you could check there if the screws in your car are tightened enough. There are so much bumps in the road there :P

not here, the roads & footpaths / sidewalks are in a terrible state of disrepair
