Willhub. Why would you automatically say they are crap? Personally, I would rather have Abit or Asus, but Epox boards are incredible at overclocking. Check yourself before you commment.

so, i still think they are crap, i would want to go with a well known brand becouse there is less chance of anything going wrong wit em cos the well known brands are better quality, now they might by really ace at overclocking, but how long will they last, there prob build out of cheapo parts, i am only guessing, i cant be botherd to find anyhting out about them.

they wont beat a lanparty at overclocking.
 
They seem very cost effective. The EPoX using the NF4 Ultra chipset has a perfect 5 star review @ newegg. Just because it's a lesser know company doesn't mean it's hopless, ASUS would have started out the same way and was most likely ridiculed. I would have just stuck with a DFI LP myself but I've read about some major stability probs with them. This may have been sorted out by now though.
 
no but someone said they had a via chipset and it fried itself, and now i see via chips on my intel mobo.

Okay, I read enough on Newegg to decide that EPoX really wan't the best plan. Too many people were getting DOA boards and more than a few folks were haveing major probs. ABIT is the route I'll most likely be taking:)

Alright I compiled a list of stuff I would like to order around the end of this summer, a little later if I still need more money but I should only need an extra $200 to cover unexpected costs and shipping. I've decided on everything except for the ram, with which I plan to use for some good overclocking. I've found some good OCz and Patriot PC3200 I really like and with a good price, but I know it won't give me the best oc being PC3200 so I checked out ninja's PC4000 Geil, it was amazing for the price but the latency sucked so I'm a little torn. There's some great OCz PC4000 for $190 which is more than I'd like to pay though it's got the best trimmings of any DDR4000 dimms I've seen @ 2-2-2-8. The only prob, aside from price is the voltage is 3.3v! So you need a good fan blowing on it which is a little tricky for a n00b like me. Please advise on this matter:)

One more question in addition to the ram dilema, the case has 3 80mm fans which I'm replacing as they'll most likely be loud, but it also has 2 90mm fans. Now the only 90mm fans I could see on newegg were noisey and I wouldn't doubt the ones in the case are too. Would 3 80mm fans be good enough for overclocked components or do any of you know of any 90mm fans <25db's?

My hitachi has worked flawlessly and I've heard great things. Within the good brands it really doesn't vary too much performance wise. Raptors are a bad deal for the storage you get so I'll have to take a different route. In a while I'll probably get another 160gig drive and raid them.
Is there any major advantage of SATA II? Speed would be about the same at least right?

Okay, this reply is a little late, but better late than never.

I don't like Epox because I've had a few Socket A motherboards that either died within a few weeks after purchase or had memory issues with RAM that otherwise worked fine in other systems I had. When I looked into these issues, I found an unusually higher level of complaints (which you will have with every company in the world) compared to the likes of Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, etc. Now, while I have heard that they've gotten a bit better with the 9NPA+ series, I can't really say go at 'em right now. If they continue to have a better track record, I'll let up, but I need to have a good indication that they are moving up.

Now, when DFI started coming out with their LanParty stuff, they had some major issues. I was curious about their nForce 4 boards, since I like to try different companies when I can. From what I'd been reading, these boards looked like DFI had seen the problems of their last gen motherboards and looked to remedy those issues. No, doubt, I would like to try Epox again, but I'm gonna have to see a consistent, positive track record first before I put one in my machine. For a newer enthisast geared company, DFI has come out with some nice motherboards this round. They're stable as hell, yet have some of the best overclocking options you can get. Once Epox can get an acceptable level of solid motherboards out there and maintain that level, I think they can become a good company. What I don't know is if their problems lie in the design, the component choices, the production process, or a combination of the three. I don't know. Whatever it is, the company needs to address these issues. If not, there are companies out there like DFI that come out of nowhere and develop a following very quickly.

I had a socket 7 Epox board that ran beautifully, so I really wonder what the hell happened. My theory is they concentrated too much on the overclocking aspects instead of building a solid base. I think they will eventually fix there problems, as Abit had some stability issues several years back and they've fixed those (although they had some issues related to bad capacitors).
 
Great work B, thanks mate. I'm a little beyond the point where I'd need to look at an EPoX board now, as I really just concidered them because they had good specs for the price. So at this point it's either the ASUS Deluxe or The DFI LP. I was looking into ABIT and all seemed great but some recent reviews said otherwise. Thanks again.
