How is the copy process done?

i need to know for some urgent research , how is really the copy process running in the hardware of a computer ?

i mean when i copy a file or text - which is stream of electrons on the harddisk or CD or DVD .... etc- what actually happens to these electrons and how they are transferred ? and when i click 'Paste' what is actually going on ?

i need to know a reference explaining all these in detail

and also the algorithm of copying
