How to display MPEG or AVI format on TV

I hooked my ATi9500 pro with my TV via S-Video. Now, as far as the DVD's are concerned, I can visualize everything on my T.V. but other format files like AVI, DIVX etc,. don't display on the T.V.
Is there a specific reason for that?
and Is there a way to fix it or convert the format?

because the files display on the monitor,.. but not on the T.V.

Nope,.. didn't work. Installed the codecs and tried a file in Divx format,... still it displayed on the monitor screen but not on the T.V.
I think it might be worth mentioning that my T.V doesnot have the S-video connection, so i using a converter in between,.. changing the signal from S-video to RCA or composite.
 
RCA would probably be the best picture, you make sure all the cnnections are happenin? and what about the settings in the converter? if any are available
 
Well the DVD are working fine ,.. so it means that all the connections are fine,.. even the desktop comes on the T.V.
The converter doesnot have any switch. It is a simple cable with one S-video end and the other RCA end.
 
I had this problem! what you need to do is lower the resollution for the s-video output to around 640*480 I think or maybe it was 800*600 pixels. Or it could be the refresh rate which might need to be set at 60hz I think!
 
Tired both of the resolutions but it did not work. My refresh rate is already set at 60Mhz. I think that is the max it supports.
The resolution of the tv cannot be changed without changing the resolution of the monitor screen. What ever is the resolution of the monitor, the same is for the T.V.
I suppose this is what you meant.
