Well I am looking into my next upgrades being a good psu a dvd burner and a hdd. 1st the hdd. I have an ASrock Dual sata 2 mobo and dont know much about hd's other then this sata 2 thingy has something to do with the type of hdd that can go in it.

Correct me if im wrong buy Sata 2 is like 3.gb's transfer rate thing right? I have slimed my choices down to this one.

Any suggestions or info to tell me?
 
well it says 3Gb/s but thats the thoetical maximum transfer rate, which you will probably even come close to that, in a perfect world (probably with you HDD in a vacuum (no air) and stuff) but in reality thomas234 is probably nearer the mark, that HDD looks fine, at least its not a maxtor lol

theres nothing wrong with maxtor drives if you dont mind buying a new HDD every 9 - 12 months (learnt that the hard way) seagate are generally the best i can supply you with a good few Erm...Erm...Erm :swear: maxtor drives, if you dont believe me

don't worry, there sometimes fixable by either the drop test or freezing drive for a couple of weeks then they sometimes work for about 20 minutes (until it warms up) then refreeze for another 20 minute of recovery,

no but on a serious note, maxtor driver go without any warning (except a very slight change in the noise it makes (which you won't hear if your HDD is in a case, and hear it over the PSU fan

how old is your maxtor drive ?
and HDD model ?
 
maxtor are very good for replacing dead drives covered under the warranty but your data is not covered under the warranty, and with most HDD failures the data is more important than the drive, but if possible replace the drive before it gets to between a year and 18 months old, 200Gb will probably be obsolete by then anyway,

drives i've had good opinion of:

i think these are right - companies merge all the time

these drives i've never had a problem with

Seagate / Conner
Western digital
Fujitsu / Hitachi / Samsung

IBM - only had 1 failed IBM drive

basically just search the net (forums) to see what is the best product
 
Well, yes, Maxtor has been great about replacing drives, I've had a lot of Maxtors, and have pretty much RMA'd them all at least once. I just had two of those die a few weeks ago. Western Digital keeps ticking along, and Seagate also has a good reputation. Samsung is stepping up, and Hitatchi supposedly has some good drives---though the IBM 75GXP ghosts nags some of us (like me, despite Hitatchi never had anything to do with this fiasco).

Oh, and for about $5 more, you could add another 50GB...
