I have a 105E1 CRT

I have a Phillips 105E1 CRT, recently it has started making high pitched noise rhythmically...then suddenly one day suddenly my monitor's display went haywire and it sorta concave-ed, i mean i never saw this kind of prob before. The sides were blacked out and the screen was a concave form. then when i tapped my monitor lightly it flickered and went bacjk to normal.

Can anybody tell me what's wrong??:(
 
sound like its about to go to the big monitor shop in the sky, use it till it dies then replace it

BTW: it would be a good idea to get another monitor to use after your current monitor has it funeral
 
Its defiantly on its way out. I had a crt monitor which ticked and wobbled, then one day died.
 
Yea, its deffo about to go to sleep, i had a monitor that made a high pitched noise, then screen went blury, then it cuts out and doesent work for a day or 2, Crt's are so unreliable, when you get a new monitor, get lcd.
 
You must've had a lot of bad CRT's then, as I've seen multiple ones that were in use around the year 2000 and still work after all these years today. You're basing the reliability of all CRT's on one bad one? Come on, now, that's just poor logic.

As far as the monitor, yeah, it sounds like it's shot, although you could try degaussing it (check your manual on how to get there with the monitor's OSD settings).

thats true, my CRT has been running for about 10 years with no problems, i always used to say "i will never buy an LCD (but that was when LCD was that crappy "dual-scan) but LCD's are a lot better now

I couldnt say how old mine was but it was a 10" jobby!

Ive got through two lcd monitors since then, plus one of the two we have now is on its way out.
 
there all not unreliable, but its best to get lcd's now as there more compact and offer better image quality, my last crt i used was a dell 15" and i got it for £10 from my high school, and its still working, my guess is that thats about 5 years old, on the other hand my pro view 15" monitor that came with my e machines computer did not last long at all, about 2 years in full working condition.

My first lcd (17" Medion) was faulty when i first bought it, always wierd flickering lines at the top, no way to stop it, still does it now..

so really, in my opinion, lcd's vs crt's are equal, 1 bad crt, 1 bad lcd, 1 good crt, 1 good lcd :)
