i just don't know what to think anymore. aspect ratios really aggravate me. i could go on and on about the differences and pros and cons concerning available content and display equipment etc etc. its to the point that im not even sure what i would want if this were an i want world. well, i guess i think i am, but its not currently available, unless you buy like 15 grand of runco stuff. (yeah, my pj cost a grand, so thats just not a viable alternative). i really wish it were widely available though, to budget people too.
if you havent already figured this out, what im complaining about is the lack of native 2.35:1 projectors (and rptv's, for those of you with bright and/or smaller rooms). im curious if anyone out there shares my sentiments. so many movies are 2.35:1, and like a true wannabe purist (and oxymoron specialist) i am reluctant to use cropping, zooming, pan n scanning, etc. it really hurts pj people especially b/c people buy pj's for huge screen sizes, primarily. so you spend mucho dinero to get a huge screen then put in your favorite action dvd only to see xx% of youre screen go to waste.
and in my case the stupid black bars also remind me of how cheap my setup is! (plv-z2, not-so-elite screens 84") dont get me wrong, for the price i love my z2, but i def love it more when the picture is bright! also, i want to be clear on the not-so-elite screen, its great for the money. i wouldnt even realize it's faults & those of my pj's if it werent for my uncle's slightly-better-funded sp4810 & 100" stewart silver thingy setup.
but back to the point, what do you all think, are you content w/ 16:9 or are you, like me, longing for a diff option in aspect ratios? one more thing, lemme figure that %. 1/1.78=x/2.35 x=1.32 so 2.35:1.32=16:9 so you lose 0.32 out of 1.32.... hmm gotta be around 25..... uh, oh yeah so 0.32/1.32=0.24 repeatingish (i used 1.78, 1.32, etc) dang! so you think maybe sanyo'll give me a 24% rebate?! hahaha!
p.s. so maybe if enough people express demand for 2.35:1, the pj companies will supply it! <--i think thats how it works, right?
